The Nation: The War on T-Shirts
Butler Shaffer and John Nichols have excellent expressions of how Cindy Sheehan — so often a symbol of dissent in this country — has become a symbol of individual loss in favor of politician’s power.
Any idea why she was originally reported as having a “banner”, and now is being reported as just having a t-shirt?
Although I’m not a fan of Sheehan in any deep way, she really is more of a symbol than a person at this point. On that grounds, and on the grounds that she’s officially become a victim of political oppression, I hope she sues the capitol police for their unlawful conduct. And here’s hoping that it doesn’t reach the Supreme Court.
