Robert Anton Wilson, RIP

Y’know, for some reason, I’m actually disappointed in him for dying. I never realized it, but I guess I expected RAW to…well, if not live forever, at least vanish into the wilderness.

Whatever he’s become, I hope he’s having fun.

Yeah, he was a proponent of living forever, or die trying. Guess he took choice #2.

By the way, for people interested in RAW, and warping their minds, I recommend starting with the Schroedinger’s Cat triology, Right Where You Are Sitting Now, The Illuminati Papers, and Masks of the Illumanit, in approximately that order. The Illumaniti Triology, while inarguably his greatest work, is also his least approachable and hardest to read work. It’s a lot easier to get if you work your way up to it.

RAW also created one of the two most interesting, most fun characters in literature IMHO (the other being Miles Vorkosigan). Long before Neal Stephenson was writting about Hiro Protagonist, RAW was decorating “Schroedinger’s Cat” with such characters as the Buddist Monk Ped Xing, or the actress Natalie Drest.

But by far the best character has to be Markoff Chaney. The only character to make me fall out of my chair laughing while reading a mathematics book, when I got the joke.

So fair thee well, Robert. And remember- the pigeons in B.F. Skinner’s laboratory are political prisoners. Release them, or further actions will follow.

Markoff Chaney is based on a real person. He was known as The Gamemaster or The Gamemaster of Florin. In real life was a kid genius.

Sorry I didn’t see this before, or I could have cleared things up.

Robert Anton Wilson, whom I knew as “Grandbob,” did not die. RAW’s death was faked with a cloned body. Then the real RAW (who doesn’t use a wheelchair but runs like a cat) was taken by our mutual friend BloodStar to the planet Eris, there to rejoin beloved wife Arlen. There they live in peace, awaiting the arrival of their living offspring, and the revival of their daughter Luna.

To those who claim Planet Eris is unlivable to humans, I have to ask: which dimension are you from?
