Real Life Update and Administrivia

Well, now that the F1 Web Challenge has come and gone, the Next Big Thing for me is surgery for my deviated septum, which I’m trying to get in for early April. Getting to the surgery involves an insane number of doctor’s appointments, and after the surgery is an overnight stay in the ICU, all of which is both interesting and teeth-gratingly frustrating. The goal is to be in soon enough and healed up enough to take a swing at the next In the Loop “Story Slam”.

I’m still cranking away on Java CONcurrency Handler, although I’m losing steam. The binary and source distributions have a whopping 18 downloads between them, and aside from Hamlet D’Arcy and a wiki comment, it seems to be kind of a dud. So I’m going to declare it finished as soon as the pipeline stuff gets done, and I’ll write up some documentation and then move on to other stuff. Quite frankly, I’m having more fun playing with JoCaml than reinventing it in Java (which, after all, is kinda stupid).

The first “other stuff” I’ll move onto is JFit, which doesn’t have too much work to do. I’ve knocked the big functional rewrite of FIT’s source code off the list, because the Big Rewrite is also kinda stupid. And, quite frankly, I’m used to hacking around the weirdness in FIT’s source code at this point, so I’m not personally seeing a lot of value from rewriting it in a more beginner-friendly format. So, at that point, all that’s left is to fork AntFit (since the current maintainer isn’t even answering his e-mail) and make some updates to it (which will take an hour, total), and then import and integrate FitLibrary and Ivy. I figure that should be about an afternoon, and then I’ll spend another afternoon documenting the Hell out of it, and then I’ll declare it done. After that, it will just be maintaining the software to keep up-to-date with Fit and FitLibrary releases.

There are a couple of other projects in my queue ([1], [2]), which I’m pretty excited about. And I still do intend to start the podcast, even though that’s taking for freaking ever to get started. And I’m still going to be switching hosting companies — that was supposed to happen today, but I’m getting a MacBook Pro instead.
