Mac OS-X with Quicksilver
Imagine being able to press Ctrl-Space, and then a few characters, and your computer immediately does whatever it was you were thinking.
That’s what Quicksilver does for OS X: check out the unofficial tutorial at The Primary Vivid Weblog.
It’s does for navigation/application launching what vi does for text editting — it lets you communicate to your computer at the speed of thought.

Want a Log Cabin, and a Piece of Mall of America History?
This is an e-mail I just got from a friend of mine who does promotion at the Mall of America.
OK - This is going to seem like a strange e-mail, but thought I would send it anyway. As many of you know, we are changing The Park at MOA into Nickelodeon Universe over the coming 8 months. As part of that transformation, we are going to do some demolition on existing structures in the amusement park.
One of the structures is a gorgeous log cabin - with large logs, rafters, wood shingle roof, windows and a beautiful stone fireplace. MOA is hoping to find someone who can use this cabin - otherwise we will simply demolish it and try to recycle what we can. So we are looking for a loving home for the cabin. It is roughly 20′ x 40′ (I’ve never been good at guessing sizes - but it’s nice sized).
The cool part is - that if you are interested and would like the cabin - you can have it for free from MOA. However, there would be some cost involved. The stipulation is that you would have to hire an experienced/professional company that is bonded and insured to professionally disassemble the log home and transport it to your property. The Mall won’t allow individuals or volunteers to do this - there’s too much of a liability risk. I don’t know exactly what that would cost - but engineers here estimate it would cost roughly $30,000. You can pick the company - as long as they are legitimate.
I’ve also been told that a comparable cabin structure could easily exceed $100,000. I have no way of qualifying that - but I will tell you that it’s a beautiful structure. And personally, I hate the thought of having it torn down and tossed away.
The only other hitch is that we are going to begin demolition in about 4-6 weeks - so if we are to find a new home for the structure, I need to do it quickly.
If you have ever wanted to own a log cabin - this may be your opportunity.
So if you have any interest, or know of anyone who might have interest, let me know right away. Thanks. Dan Jasper.
If you’re interested, let me know and I can pass you Dan’s contact info.

Letters to My Congresspeople
I just can’t take it anymore, so I wrote those in Congress who represent me:
Some highlights:
Please understand that this letter is from a conservative. There was a time when I supported the Republican party over the Democrats, because I appreciate social solutions and limited government over legislated morality and bloat. However, since the Bush administration has taken power, I have watched the government balloon unchecked and encroach into our personal freedoms in blatant disregard of the sanctity of private life. Some of these things I accepted as necessary consequences of the 9/11 attacks, and some of these things seemed like reactionary panic, which I tolerated in faith that the courts and future Congresses would refine them. For a while, it seemed like my faith was well-placed.
Things have now changed. The Bush administration’s politicization of justice and unwillingness to accept the rule of law and Congress’s role of oversight has orchestrated a constitutional showdown which Congress cannot lose. Former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts has said: “Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year form now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran.” A few weeks ago, I would have written that off as paranoia, but the administration’s now flagrant disregard for Congress’s oversight role, and its blatant disregard for the public that it is supposed to serve, has pushed me too far.
[...]
Be assured that I will be watching the next few months of politics very carefully. Any member of Congress who takes a positive step to oppose this affront to American ideals will gain my lifelong support, and a outspoken and passionate advocate; any member who is complacent through this breakdown of our government will earn their own place in that Hell reserved for those who stand by while evil triumphs.
