Okay — before people talk about Christian theology, they should at least get some of the jargon right. For instance, take this blurb from the back cover of Holy Blood, Holy Grail:

Is it possible Christ did not die on the cross?

The unequivacable answer in Christian theology is “No”. See, the Christ — and it is the Christ, not “Christ” — it’s a role, not a name: Jesus’s brother wasn’t “James Christ” — anyway, the Christ is defined by the passion. To ask if it’s possible if the Christ did not die on the cross is like asking if it’s possible a President wasn’t sworn in: the answer is no, because if they’re not sworn in, they’re not actually President. If the Christ did not suffer under sin and death for our redemption, then it isn’t the Christ. If you want to question whether some rabbi called Jesus of Nazareth died on the cross two thousands year ago, fine, but know what you are saying when you put pen to paper.
